Infrared sauna
Infrared cabins heat the body with infrared emitters, typically at lower air temperatures than a Finnish wood-stove sauna. Papers may say far-infrared sauna (FIRS) or Waon-style 60 °C dry sauna. Those lab and hospital protocols are not automatically the same as a 15-minute drop-in at a listed studio.

What the papers measured
Human evidence is a mix of small clinical series (including heart-failure research under medical care), a family-physician summary of far-infrared papers, one small recovery study in men, and systematic reviews that lump Finnish and infrared dry sauna together.

Manufacturer health claims outran the 2009 evidence summary
Narrative summary of nine human papers (family-medicine journal)
Beever searched English-language human studies of far-infrared saunas and found nine relevant papers. The review reported limited moderate evidence for blood-pressure and congestive-heart-failure research, fair evidence from a single study for chronic pain, weak evidence from single studies for chronic fatigue syndrome and obesity, and consistent fair evidence against claims that far-infrared saunas lower cholesterol. The author noted that manufacturers claimed many benefits while published evidence was limited.
Limitation. Small literature. “Treatment” in the paper title refers to those clinical reports, not a ThriveHop listing. Do not read this as a prescription.

Dry-sauna reviews mix Finnish rooms and infrared, and most trials are tiny
Systematic review of clinical studies (13 RCTs)
Hussain and Cohen systematically reviewed regular dry sauna bathing from 2000 onward: 40 clinical studies, 3,855 participants. Only 13 were randomized trials, and most studies had fewer than 40 people. Outcome measures were heterogeneous. The authors said regular dry sauna bathing has potential health benefits, but higher-quality data are needed on adverse effects, dose, and who might benefit. The review included Finnish and infrared protocols.
Limitation. Cannot be mapped 1:1 onto a U.S. infrared boutique. Potential benefit is not proof that a listed venue treats disease.

Hospital 60 °C sauna series in heart-failure patients is not a gym visit
Small non-randomized clinical study in CHF patients
Kihara et al. studied 20 patients with NYHA class II or III chronic heart failure who used a 60 °C dry sauna for 15 minutes, then 30 minutes of bed rest under a blanket, daily for two weeks, compared with 10 matched patients who sat in a 24 °C room. The sauna group had improved brachial-artery flow-mediated dilation and lower BNP; 17 of 20 reported better symptoms. This was supervised cardiology research, not a drop-in infrared class.
Limitation. n = 20 treated. Heart-failure patients need clinician care. A listed infrared cabin does not treat heart failure.

One small recovery study in men, mixed results
Small within-subject human recovery study (n = 10 men)
Mero et al. had 10 physically active men complete strength or endurance sessions, then 30 minutes in a far-infrared sauna at 35–50 °C. After strength work, recovery measures did not differ from no sauna. After endurance work, countermovement jump at 30 minutes was slightly higher after far-infrared than after sitting. Traditional sauna raised heart rate more than far-infrared in their comparison. The authors described far-infrared as a light load; that is their interpretation of this n = 10 experiment.
Limitation. Not a longevity trial. Jump height is not a disease outcome. Do not treat this as a training prescription.
