Compression (pneumatic / Normatec-style)
Listed venues often have intermittent pneumatic compression (IPC) boots — inflatable sleeves that cycle pressure on the legs, sometimes compared with Normatec-style systems. Research also studies elastic compression garments (tights, sleeves). Those are different products.

What the papers measured
Sports-recovery meta-analyses look at soreness, muscle function, and lab markers after exercise in athletes or healthy people. They are not trials of treating blood clots, lymphedema, or other medical compression indications at a gym.

IPC boots after sport: small soreness signal, mixed muscle function
Systematic review and meta-analysis (Biology of Sport, 2024)
Maia et al. systematically reviewed and meta-analyzed lower-limb intermittent pneumatic compression for sports recovery (17 studies, 319 participants). They reported a trivial to small benefit for muscular function, a trivial to moderate effect for pain and soreness, and highly variable effects on muscle-damage markers. Protocols of about 20–30 minutes and pressures around 80 mmHg were the most common in the included research. They concluded IPC might help recovery mainly by reducing perceived soreness, and that it still lacks strong scientific support overall.
Limitation. Athletic/healthy samples. “Might reduce soreness” is not a treatment for injury or vascular disease. Typical research settings are not a listed gym’s drop-in.

Compression garments are a different product, with a moderate DOMS signal in one BJSM meta-analysis
Meta-analysis of garment studies (British Journal of Sports Medicine)
Hill et al. pooled 12 studies of compression garments after damaging exercise. Combined data showed moderate effects favoring garments for delayed-onset muscle soreness, muscle strength, muscle power, and creatine kinase at 24–72 hours. That paper is about garments (tights/sleeves), not pneumatic boots. It does not show that wearing or renting compression treats disease.
Limitation. Do not cite this as proof that Normatec-style IPC works the same way. Exercise-induced muscle damage in athletes is not a clinical diagnosis ThriveHop treats.
